KML Download/Upload Procedure - Map Pilot by Maps Made Easy

Map pilot is an automated flight app that will allow the upload of KML files directly into the app to create a flight plan. In addition, Map Pilot's "Terrain Awareness" feature (available as a one-time in-app purchase) makes it ideal for flying locations with major altitude changes. Here are the steps for downloading then importing a KML into Map Pilot for a mapping mission should you choose to use this app.

  1. Download the KML from the mission page in your pilot dashboard (can only be done in your browser on your computer).

  2. Transfer the KML file to the device you are planning to use for your flight controller or some file sharing service you can access from your flight controller. (You may email it to yourself as well.)

  3. Launch Map Pilot

  4. Navigate to the KML file on your drone controller and tap on it.

  5. Open In (Copy to) Map Pilot

    Slide the list of available apps until you locate Map Pilot

    Touch Map Pilot (The Map Pilot App Will Appear)

  6. Choose: Create New Mission

  7. The New mission screen will open and after a few seconds the area of the KML file will be displayed

Touch “Ok” in the box

  1. Adjust settings as needed for overlap and required altitude. (overlap settings are at the top and the altitude is on the left side (magnifying glass))

  2. SAVE the flight plan (map icon on the left side) in case you do not have service at the site.

Your flight is all set up and ready to be flown when you get on-site. Don’t forget to do your preflight checks and adjust altitude/flight plan if necessary to avoid obstructions. Make sure to inform our ops team if any changes are necessary so we can review and update the client.
